Nagpur: Multiple Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MSI-C) is another threat looming large on the people, without giving a relief from the destruction caused by the second wave of Covid 19. In Nagpur already more than 20 children are in the hospital for the problem. In the third wave, it is anticipated that children will be attacked by the virus. Although the third wave has not been experienced, infrastructure is being readied in advance. Renowned paediatricianDrUdayBodhankar stated that more than 20 children are being treated as on May 31. Dr. Bodhankar is an internationally renowned pediatrician and a member of the Task Force constituted by the State Government for anticipated third wave and care for children.DrBodhankar said that the children with MIS-C are being treated at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and private hospitals – Nelson and Nucleus.  The preparations for the anticipated third wave are already in process. Four meetings so far have been conducted with representatives of government and private hospitals participating in it. Children have not been vaccinated so far. They are likely to be the target for the Coronavirus in the third wave. However, it should not result in a panicky situation as proper treatment for MIS-C is available. The doctors in the field are ready with their plans well in advance. President of Indian Association of Pediatricians Dr. Vijay Dhote confirmed that sporadic cases of MIS-C are being treated in Nagpur. DrDhote is also a member of the Task Force and said that the district is all prepared to handle the situation if the third wave strikes sooner or later.MIS-C has a complete cure. More cases are in the age group of 6 to15 years. The duration of treatment may be longer, but there is no report of long term side-effects on the treated child. In Nagpur district, more than a hundred hospitals have facilities for treating children affected by MIS-C. Usually, ventilators are not required during children, as their immunity and inherent strength is higher, DrDhote said. On getting Corona infection, they get cured with their inbuilt immune system. However, high fever for more than three days, stomach upset, nausea, lethargy, now, should be reported to the doctor. This is necessary in view of the anticipated third wave of Corona and MIS-C, he added. Out of the Corona affected children, MIS-C may occur in 3% to 4% cases. If proper care is taken at home and children are educated on preventive measures, MIS-C can be easily prevented.
