Bangladesh is currently up against Zimbawe in the three-match ODI series and is leading 2-0 in the set with the third match taking place today. All was going well for visiting nation Bangladesh before it came to the fore that skipper Tamim Iqbal will miss cricketing action for full two months owing to a severe knee injury. In the same sequence of events, Iqbal will now miss the T20I series against Zimbabwe and then the T20I series against New Zealand and Australia at home.

Iqbal suffered this knee injury in the month of April while being in Sri Lanka but he got recovered to stand up against the home team in ODIs in May. He then went on to ply his trade in 11 matches in T20 Dhaka Premier League but injury kept him at bay from the Super League phase of the competition.

'Tamim will return home alongside MehidyHasanMiraz and Taijul Islam from the ODI side. Tamim has been advised to rest for six to eight weeks. He won't be able to play against Australia [in August] and New Zealand [in September] at home, but he might play against England [in October]. We have asked Rubel (Hossain), (Mohammad) Mithun, and Mosaddek (Hossan) to stay back with the T20I side as part of our contingency plan for the Australia series,' said Bangladesh's chief selector MinhajulAbedin as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

'We have to keep players in quarantine for ten days ahead of the Australia series bio-bubble. We want to have as many options as possible as we won't be able to call up players from outside the bio-bubble,' he added.

Tamim missed the one-off Test against Zimbabwe but added that he would 'manage' to play the ODIs as they are part of the World Cup Super League. However, the sudden decision to take time off came when a famous orthopedic surgeon from Australia suggested him rest on the injury. The famous surgeon based out of Melbourne is known to be in touch with several Bangladesh cricketers.
