Power crisis

The power in the name of the edit is not related to political power for which crisis will always remain a problem. Entire north India is currently facing an electricity power crisis due to which people are facing extreme hardships. As the temperature has gone to an unbearable level, the people have to run air conditioners or ceiling fans for twenty-four hours. This has been triggering huge light bills which people are unable to pay due to job loss or salary cuts. But, the real problem people are facing is power cuts in many north Indian states like Punjab. One of the richest states in India, Punjab is going through an unprecedented power crisis and state electricity corporation has imposed a power cut. People who have to remain in houses due to lockdown with lack of electricity are losing their temper and there are demonstrations on roads against Punjab State Electricity Corporation that have become routine. Not only this, as many industries and units have started after some relaxations in restrictions and this fact has also triggered an unprecedented increase in demand for power. The increase in population is another reason which can’t be neglected. The irony is that, not only for Punjab but for the entire country the successive governments have failed to increase the supply of electricity enough for the increased population. With the advent of science, we have invented many machines for even the smallest works, which run on electricity. But, the governments have not tried enough to ensure enough supply power to run these machines. The reason is the government’s apathy towards this problem. In India, most electricity is produced on the dam water. But, there are not enough dams so that, sufficient power can be generated from these dam water.  The opposition of people for the acquisition of lands for the watershed areas of dams is the major impediment. There is no enough water in rivers also on whose water reservoir, dams can be built. In India, many dams have been constructed in British times. The governments always deny their responsibility of providing enough electricity to citizens in the name of insufficient rains. The tragedy is that several governments have come and gone, but nobody has given any attention to ensure a sufficient electricity supply. The result is that every state is facing a power cut at any time of the year. Had the government paid attention to electricity supply, today we would never have seen power cuts in any state. As usual, the leaders make tall promises at the time of elections about providing twenty-four hours of electricity. But nobody has complied with that assurance. So, from seventy years of independence, the election planks revolve around the same water, meter, and gutter issues. We should now turn towards solar energy seriously like Germany. If we emphasize solar power, then we would be self-reliant in the case of electricity. There are two main advantages of using solar power in large proportions. Firstly, it reduces the level of pollution. As solar power does not require any fossil fuel, we can turn to solar power. As there is no burning of coal is required to generate electricity in the case of electric energy, it saves pollution.  Secondly, solar energy is very cheap compared to all other forms of electricity which result in electricity bill reduction.  The government should concentrate on using solar energy. Then only the power cut problem can be solved.
