Mumbai: After the Supreme Court scrapped the Maratha quota, the Maharashtra government has now allowed Marathas to avail benefits of 10 percent reservation in education and government jobs under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
There was immense pressure that was build-up on the Maharashtra government after the Supreme Court scrapped the 13 percent reservation for the Maratha community. Now it seems, a new order has been brought up by the state government in an attempt to circumvent the latest Supreme Court order,
The Supreme Court on May 5, 2021, struck down the reservation in government jobs and educational institutions for the Maratha community brought in by the Maharashtra government in 2018, saying it exceeded the 50 percent cap imposed earlier.
