Congress to meet Pawar, Thackeray over Maratha reservation; party and govt functioning different: Nana Patole

Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole on Tuesday said leaders of the party will discuss the issue of Maratha and OBC reservations with National Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena supremo and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

"We discussed issues of Maratha and OBC reservations. Our leaders will meet Sharad Pawar and CM Uddhav Thackeray on this issue and will take forward our demand from the Centre to provide necessary data to give reservation to these communities," Patole said.

The chief of state Congress, a constituent of the MahaVikasAghadi government in Maharashtra, further stated there is a difference in the functioning of the government and of the party.

"It's the duty of the leadership of every party to encourage their cadre. We should understand government functioning is different and party functioning is different," Patole said.

Earlier as well, he had accused the Shiv Sena and NCP of spying on him and other Congress leaders. Patole had claimed that every day at 9 am, CM Thackeray, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil get the report of meetings convened by the state Congress leaders.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that the Supreme Court in its judgment on June 28 had dismissed the review petition filed by the Centre challenging the interpretation of the 102nd Constitutional amendment in the Maratha reservation case.

"Application for an oral hearing is rejected. We have gone through the review petition filed against the judgment of May 05, 2021, in the writ petition. The grounds taken in the review petition do not fall within the limited ground on which review petition can be considered," the court said in its verdict.

"The various grounds taken in the review petition have already been dealt with in the main judgment. We do not find any sufficient ground to entertain this review petition. The review petition is dismissed," the top court said.
