Big blow to Congress

Congress today got a setback with the exit of senior leader and former minister Jiten Prasad joined BJP. Prasad is forty-seven years old.  In political meaning, he is considered as young. His exit will be considered as even the young generation is attracted towards Modi and BJP, as both are inseparable. It seems that Congress has started numbering its days now. In Rajasthan, there is not good news for Congress. Sachin Pilot has once again challenged the leadership of chief minister Ashok Gehlot and he may join the bandwagon of leaders joining the saffron party. Jiten Prasad is though not much influential leader, but his exit will give two messages. One is, for BJP and another is for Congress. For BJP, the message is that even not-so-big leaders are attracted towards Modi and so his magic is yet not receded. He still enjoys much popularity though maybe slightly declined. There is massive unemployment, lakhs of Covid deaths and many people are considering him as responsible for such a huge tragedy. But still Modi can’t be neglected or hated and his popularity has remained the same with a small decline. Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh elections next year, BJP has got a shot in the arms definitely. Once BJP was politically untouchable and now the situation has been changed to another point of the pendulum. For Congress, the message is amply clear. Congressmen are not satisfied with the leadership of Sonia or Rahul Gandhi and even Priyanka Gandhi. They do not trust their leaders as they are uncertain about how many years they will have to sit in opposition. They are not sure about their future in Grand Old Party. Congress will have to set its house in order first, but how they can do it is million dollar question. Sonia Gandhi is not keeping well and Rahul seems confused with he wants to remain active in politics or not. Only making allegations against Modi is not politics. He should start groundwork from now on so that he can hope for some success in the 2024 elections. Jitin Prasada’s exit from the Congress on Wednesday is undoubtedly a setback for the Grand Old Party in terms of optics and perception. Prasad may not a huge electoral asset for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, where it has been down and out for years, his joining the BJP will reinforce the belief that even young leaders are now increasingly feeling suffocated since they see no future for themselves in the party. Prasada is not a pan-Uttar Pradesh leader. For that matter, neither does he hold significant influence in western Uttar Pradesh from where he hails. The Congress is already at its lowest ebb in the key heartland state. Prasada himself had lost the last two Lok Sabha elections and 2017 Assembly elections. So, the setback is minimal in electoral terms. However, his exit signals that there is huge disenchantment among leaders over the party’s reluctance to even make an attempt at reinvention — politically and organizationally. A year ago, another young leader, Jyotiraditya Scindia had left the Congress and joined the BJP. Sachin Pilot is likely to leave Congress within some days and it will be a big setback for Congress. Sonia wants only to promote his son and this feeling has disappointed many young leaders. The leaders may be thinking on line that, even if they work hard, ultimately they will not get the good post and Rahul will sit on the highest post, So, the leaders are deserting the party in fear of being sidelined after tremendous hard work. Prasad is a beginning and there will be a procession from Congress to BJP in next some days.
