The disasters come down on anybody in swarms and India is facing this now. As the second Corona wave is just showing signs of dying down, another calamity has infiltrated our house. According to World Health Organization or WHO’s chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan, the new Delta variant of Coronavirus has been spreading fast in the world and in eighty countries it is found. The special features of this new variant are that it spreads very fast and its capability of affecting is much greater than other viruses. Not only that, if Coronavirus causes deaths to the extent of just one or two percent, it causes much much more deaths. It will be now dominant in the world. When India is already lost lakhs of deaths due to earlier virus, this Delta will unleash a trail of devastation in the country. According to Swaminathan, Delta variant may cause more deaths than the earlier Coronavirus. When there was not vaccine was invented during the first wave, there was a clamour in the country for the vaccine. When the vaccine was developed, there has been immense issues regarding its distribution to its rate. Then, there was controversy about centre and states skirmishes as states alleged that, they were not being given enough autonomy regarding vaccine purchase and distribution. Later on, states understood that it is not in their capacity to run vaccination drives and now the centre has started to distribute vaccines free of cost since twenty June yesterday. There has been a journey of controversies and animosity between centre and states constantly. Now as the vaccination is likely to run smoothly, there is a danger of the Delta variant causing more damage to human lives. Two things are extremely dangerous about the Delta variant. Firstly, its transmissibility is more than the earlier one. It can spread very fast and its capacity of affecting is more than the earlier one. This means, if in the case of an earlier virus if an affected person can cause infection in two to four persons, Delta variant can spread the affection in four to eight persons. India has at least one hundred thirty crore population and now imagine if Delta variant spreads in the country, how much damage it can trigger. The number of deaths will be even bigger than the number during the peak days of Corona's second wave. Another worse thing about Delta is that it can surpass antibodies in the bodies developed to counter the virus. This means, if Delta has infected you, there is very little chance of saving you. This is not written to daunt the readers, but to emphasize the fact that, how the compliance of Corona's three-point formula has become of paramount importance. In the case of Delta, if we do any small laxity, we will have to pay the price by losing our lives. Vaccination is the key in this situation but it still is not a final solution. Because, a fearful feature of Delta is that, it creates a decline of the effect of the vaccine. So, even if we take a jab, we are not sure whether we are safe or not. In such a disastrous situation, it seems that there is no road ahead. Of course, there is no need to become such panicky. Though Delta is more dangerous than an earlier virus, the vaccine at least ensures that death will not occur. When an entire country and Maharashtra is facing a lethal situation, our leaders are busy in fighting elections on their own or with alliances with other parties. So, we should take care of ourselves and no government administration or leader will not come to our rescue. Now, in Mahabaleshwar, a bat has been found with the Nipah virus. This is the most lethal virus as it causes sixty-five to hundred percent deaths in comparison to Corona virus which causes one or two percent deaths.
