In Greek Mythology, there is a story about Pandora who was instructed not to open the box(actually it was a jar containing death, sickness and evil things) but Pandora opened it and it turned into a disaster. Now, in the present tense, we can attribute the same term to a secret meeting between chief minister UddhavThackray and prime minister Modi which lasted only for ten minutes but gave birth to many political possibilities. There may be three to four political meanings of this meet. First, Thackray is very upset with BJP severely attacking him for his decision to go with Congress and NCP. Thackray is labeled as a traitor throughout India and so he may be very upset. He may have demanded to Modi to restrain state BJP leaders from using such severe attacking language. Devendra Fadanvis is in a more attacking mood against Thackray for his switching sides.  So, Thackray may have complained to Modi about his criticism. Second, Shivsena is extremely upset in the MahavikasAgahdi as both Congress and NCP are dictating terms to Sena which is not habitual of such dancing to the tunes of others. It was once dictating terms to BJP and when BalasahebThackray used to become furious, PramodMahajan would come to Matosree to pacify him. Now, Uddhav has to take decisions according to will and whims of Congress and NCP especially NCP.  So, Thackray may be considering returning to NDA. Of course, it is not easy for him to suddenly returning to NDA as Sena has left it using acrid words against the combination. Thackray may be trying to give the message that, whatever the talks between the two parties about coalition would take place, they should be at directly Modi’s level. State leaders would not play a role in it. Now, it is to be seen if such demand has been put forth by Thackray in meeting with Modi and what decision Modi will take. There is another interesting angle for this meet.  DevendraFadanvis has recently met with NCP president and the mentor of the MVA government Sharad Pawar. This development may have made Thackrayvery upset and suspicious about Pawar’s intentions and so Thackayis smelling new possible equations. At this juncture, Sena’s only priority is to keep the power. Because next year Mumbai corporation elections will take place. BJP is more aggressive and now it has decided to wrest power from Sena’s hands. Thackray will be extremely in jeopardy if BJP and NCP come together to form government in the state. Pawar has different plans and the political gossip always going around that, Pawar wants to make SupriyaSule, his daughter as chief minister. In that case, he may ask to step down Thackray as chief minister. In the wake of such a possibility, Thackray may have met with Modi to give a message to Pawar. The meaning of a message is amply clear. If you ask me to step down, I have the option of returning to NDA.  These are all possibilities and there is no way to exactly understand what precise discussion was held between the two leaders. NCP’s Prafulla Patel is said to be in favor of going with BJP from the day one and he has started taking secret meetings. This fact is also enough to upset Thackray. The meet has opened up Pandora’s box and many possibilities will emerge from it. We have to wait and watch now. In some days, a big political development is expected in Maharashtra. Congress is nowhere in these developments as it is busy in setting its own house in order with the exit of Jiten Prasad to BJP.
