PRAYAGRAJ, June 14 (HS): Forest officials are ready to prosecute the owner of an elephant who was hired for a wedding. After loud music and crackers were thrown at the party, the elephant went on a rampage. Vehicles were damaged, and pandals were uprooted by the pachyderm. The event occurred late Friday night in Almapur village, under Prayagraj'sSaraiInayat police station. The elephant became irritated by the sound of crackers and smashed the wedding 'pandal.' Many persons were hurt while running helter-skelter. It also toppled four parked cars at the event. The bride and groom ran away from the spot.
Despite the fact that no one was grievously hurt, the elephant caused significant property damage, according to authorities. RakeshChaurasia, SHO of SaraiInayat police station, said the event occurred during a wedding reception when the groom and his guests were being welcomed with firecrackers during ‘dwar-chaar’ ceremony. Suddenly, the elephant went on a rampage.
The incident led to chaos and panic, but the police, forest department officials and the mahout were able to calm the elephant and bring the situation under control after hectic efforts. The incident had been reported to the forest ranger, Ashok Kumar, who had been urged to take appropriate legal action, according to the SHO. However, the SHO stated that in rural areas, the usage of horses, elephants, and camels in wedding ceremonies is a common occurrence. “There is no particular instruction from the government on the use of animals in wedding ceremonies,” he stated when reminded of the Covid-19 epidemic.
