Excise dept. destroys illicit poppy crop spread over 95 canals

SRINAGAR: The Excise enforcement teams headed by Excise & Taxation Officer, South, North and Central Excise Range Thursday destroyed illicit poppy crops spread over a total of 95 canals and 16 marlas of land. The poppy crop was destroyed on the directions of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and Excise Commissioner, J&K Government and under the close supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Kashmir, Tahir Ajaz. Meanwhile, it was given out that the Illicit poppy crop spread on a total of 726 kanals and 18 marlas of land has been destroyed in Kashmir valley till date and 12 number of FIRs stand lodged against the involved. It was given out that the eradication drive shall continue till all illicit poppy/cannabis crops in the Kashmir valley are destroyed.
