The deadline to file your income tax return has been extended

Delhi : The Centre on Tuesday has extended deadlines for several compliances, including the filing of the Income Tax Return (ITR) for the assessment year 2021-22. The deadline for filing income tax returns for the fiscal year 2021-22 has been extended to March 15, 2022.

The decision was made after the Ministry of Finance considered the difficulties reported by taxpayers and other stakeholders as a result of the Covid situation and in electronic filing of various audit reports under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961, according to a statement. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the deadline for submitting an audit report under any provision of the Act for the previous fiscal year (2020-21) to February 15, 2022.

"The due date for furnishing the 'Return of Income for the Assessment Year 2021-22', which was October 31, 2021 under Sub-section (1) of Section 139 of the Act, as extended to November 30, 2021 and February 15, 2022," has been extended to March 15, 2022, according to the ministry. The deadline for persons entering into international transactions or specified domestic transactions under Section 92E of the Act to provide a report from an accountant for the previous year (2020-21) has been extended to February 15, 2022.
