Notably, the majority of the cricket in the last year, including the recently-suspended 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, has been held behind closed doors thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. While India's fight with the second wave continues, there are few signs of normalcy elsewhere as the County Championship 2021 season witnessed spectators getting back to the stadiums.
The UK Government has earmarked England and New Zealand's second Test at Edgbaston as the pilot event for resumption of normalcy as the spectators up to 70 percent of the stadium's total capacity will be allowed.
The England-New Zealand series gets underway from June 2 onwards at Lord's, the same day when the India n team will board the flight to Southampton and kickstart their nearly four-month-long tour that includes six Tests in all. All team members are required to undergo a 10-day quarantine upon landing in Southampton, where they take on New Zealand on 18th June for the inaugural World Test Championship final, which will be followed by a five-match Test series against England. Rohit Sharma, who is a part of the 20-member UK contingent, alongside his teammates, is currently in hard quarantine in a Mumbai facility since May 24.
