SC to hear on the cutting of trees in Mumbai's Aarey Colony

New Delhi : The Supreme Court will hear today, the matter of cutting trees for the construction of a metro rail project in Mumbai's Aarey Colony. A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud will hear the matter. On August 5, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that not a single tree has been cut since the 2019 hearing. Some trees have definitely been removed. On July 28, advocate Gopal Shankarnarayan said that the court's order in 2019 was being violated.
It is noteworthy that on October 07, 2019, the Supreme Court banned the cutting of trees in the Aarey Forest. The court had said that the status quo should be restored in Aarey Forest. The cutting of trees should be stopped immediately. The survival rate of plants should be analyzed. The Supreme Court has also ordered the release of all those arrested for opposing the cutting of trees.
