New Delhi, The Supreme Court dismissed the petition challenging the EVM voting. A bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said that there is no merit in this petition.
The petition was filed by advocate Manohar Lal Sharma. The petition had contended that Parliament's nod was not obtained to add it to Section 61A of the Representation of the People Act, which allows the use of EVMs in elections.
Therefore, it is unconstitutional. It was said in the petition that the Election Commission does not have the right to conduct elections through EVMs. The petition said that under the Representation of the People Act, elections can be conducted only through ballot papers.
