Mining lease: SC adjourns Hemant Soren plea against Jharkhand HC

New Delhi : The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing of the state government's petition against the hearing in the Jharkhand High Court in the case of mining lease and fake company. A bench headed by Justice UU Lalit ordered the hearing on August 12. On June 3, the Jharkhand High Court had ruled on the matter being maintainable in the petition filed against Hemant Soren. The Jharkhand High Court had rejected the state government's contention that the Jharkhand High Court rules have not been followed while filing the petition. Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Jharkhand government, had submitted that the father of the person who has filed the petition against Hemant Soren in the Jharkhand High Court was a witness in a criminal case registered against Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Shibu Soren was sentenced in that case.
On May 24, the Supreme Court, while giving relief to Hemant, had directed the Jharkhand High Court to first examine whether the petition filed against Hemant is maintainable or not. The ED is probing the mining lease given to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The Jharkhand High Court had sought a report from the ED in a sealed cover. During the hearing in the Supreme Court, Sibal, appearing for the Jharkhand government, had said that the Supreme Court has taken a decision regarding the report filed in a sealed cover in a case. The court has reversed the order taken on the report filed in a sealed cover.
