Heat wave in Spain kills 1,047

Madrid : Spain is facing severe heat wave for the last ten days. Health Ministry stated that 1,047 people died due to heat stroke.

This is the second heat wave this year, first being from June 11 to 17. Temperature has crossed 40 degree Celsius. Most of those who died are senior citizens. In all 672 deceased were in the age of 85 or above; 241 between 75 and 84 and 88 from 65 to 74.

Spanish Meteorological Science Agency Spokesperson B Herwela stated that most of the deceased during the heat wave had history of respiratory and cardiovascular disease. In the first heat wave, 829 people had lost their lives.
