CM to take call on allowing fully vaccinated people to travel on local trains: Maharashtra health minister

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has said that it "holds positive views" on the issue of allowing local train travel for people who have been fully vaccinated.

Talking to India Today TV, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that he was aware that there was strong demand for relaxation from various quarters. "The government is positive about the issue and so am I. We will sit and discuss. The chief minister is the authority to take the final call," he said. Rajesh Tope was reacting to the letter request by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to the state government requesting exemption from the RT-PCR test report for all those domestic passengers who have been fully vaccinated.

Rajesh Tope said that fully vaccinated people are allowed entry at airports in Maharashtra even if they don't have an RT-PCR report. He added, "So it's obvious there will be demand for the same for other places as well".Tope said that the state government has made a request for 3 crore vaccines per month from the Centre to be able to vaccinate the entire state at the earliest.

Speaking about the restrictions in Maharashtra, Tope said: "In a latest video conference, I told chief minister that the purpose for which we have put the restrictions on various districts in the state needs to be fulfilled. The restrictions need to be implemented to the fullest so that they serve the purpose".
