Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party, has hit out at the BJP for "ending democracy" during the recently-concluded block panchayat chief election.
Speaking to India Today in an exclusive interview, Akhilesh Yadav said, "The Yogi Adityanath government ended democracy during the [block panchayat chief] election. Everyone saw that."
"BJP stooped to a new low and misused the system to destabilize and end democracy," he added.
Incidents of clashes between police and party cadres were reported from different parts of Uttar Pradesh during the local election. Alleged cases of violence during the election and counting process had also emerged.
During one such incident, SP worker Anita Yadav was allegedly manhandled by BJP cadres in Lekhimpur. To express her concern and extend support, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday met Anita Yadav and raised questions about women's safety in Uttar Pradesh under Yogi Adityanath's rule.
AkhileshYadav welcomed the Congress general secretary and said that AnityaYadav and her family should get justice. "Whatever happened to her should be condemned. Anyone standing for her should be welcomed," he said. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister was also seen attacking the BJP for "failing to deliver" what the party promised. He said that in the next year's assembly polls, the saffron brigade would be defeated."The ground reality of BJP is that it will be cleared in the next election. The BJP did not follow its own manifesto. The party has failed to deliver the promises," AkhileshYadav said."They can hold one meeting after another, but cannot complete one work. People will respond," he added.
