All aspects of the Bengal train disaster will be investigated: Chairman - Railway Board

Kolkata : V K Tripathi, Chairman of the Railway Board, is in Kolkata. He inspected the site where the Bikaner-Guwahati Express derailed in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, vowing to thoroughly investigate all aspects of the accident.

12 coaches of the train derailed near Domohani in the Alipurduar subdivision of the Northeast Frontier Railway, killing nine people and injuring 36 others (NFR). The clearing of the railway tracks at the accident site is currently underway and will be completed soon. Tripathi told reporters that all angles in connection with the unfortunate mishap will be investigated.

"The root cause (behind the accident) will soon come out. The Commission of Railway Safety is conducting an inquiry, he had told reporters after visiting the site. several intercity and DEMU trains on the affected route were cancelled, and a couple were short-terminated or short-originated. Another ten long-distance trains were rerouted via different routes. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said preliminary findings suggest "sometechnical issue" with the locomotive's equipment, which could have caused the accident. The real aspect will be further known ,nly after the engine's equipment is dismantled.
