Japan agrees to ban oil import from Russia

Tokyo : Japan has in principle agreed to impose ban on import of Russian oil. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced the decision after an online meeting of G7 representatives on Monday.

Kishoda stated that as a part of G7 Japan and for increasing pressure on Russia, Japan agreeed to impose ban on oil import in a phased manner. Russian President Vladimir Putin is being pressurised for withdrawing attack on Ukraine.

Despite being highly dependent on oil import from Russia, Japan has criticised Russia for attacking Ukraine. Japan is the fifth biggest importer of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Russia. Several Russian companies have partnership in Japan Government’s companies.
