Hooch tragedy toll up by 5, dozen in hospital in Bihar


Chapra,: Five more persons are reported to have died and dozen others ill after consuming spurious liquor. Some seriously ill persons have been referred to Patna and others are being treated at Chapra Sadar hospital.
The incident occurred at Audha Bhualpur village, border village under Marhaura and Garkha police stations. One and half dozen persons fell ill after consuming spurious liquor on Thursday night and soon one victim, Allauddin Khan died. Later during the night, victims Pappu Singh and Kameshwar Mahto also succumbed.
Administration was first reluctant to admit the gaffe. But half a dozen persons were admitted with Sadar hospital, Chapra on Friday out of which two persons died and one was referred to Patna in precarious condition. Administration swung into action and sent the corpses of two victims for postmortem. Dr Meraj Aalam who was on duty told that half a dozen persons were brought to hospital by villagers who told that those have consumed liquor. Meanwhile, the widow, who used to make and sell liquor, is absconding after the tragic incident. Police are on the lookout for her.
Only on August 2, 14 persons had died and dozen had lost vision after consuming spurious liquor under Panapur and Maker police stations, though the administration had confirmed only 11 deaths and five persons along with the kingpin have been arrested and sent to jail. Reports of smuggling liquor from other states, producing and selling of liquor is rampant in Bihar and at regular intervals, hooch tragedies have been occurring.
