Fire erupts at Magh Mela; two tents gutted, no causality

PRAYAGRAJ : Two tents were destroyed at the Jai Shree Mahakal Sewa Arti's Magh Mela-2022 camp in Arail when a fire broke out owing to a leak in an LPG cylinder. Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire, according to officials. However, no one was injured as a result of the event, they noted. According to reports, Bittan Devi, a resident of Prayagraj's Industrial sector, is doing kalpwas at the Magh Mela, which officially began on Friday. When Bittan lighted the gas burner for cooking food on Saturday morning, a fire broke out at the tent. Even when fellow kalpwasis sounded an alert, she dashed out of the tent and saved herself.

Firefighters and volunteers rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze. Every year at the Magh Mela, large and tiny fires erupt in the tents of Kalpwasis and religious organisations. Furthermore, it raises the risk of fear and panic among pilgrims in the mela region. Twelve fire stations are operating in the mela area at strategic locations such as near Akshayvat, Cremation Ghat, Kotwali, and even close Daraganj Railway Station to control any fire incident.
