Chennai : Twenty-five more IIT Madras students tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday morning, bringing the total to 55.
J Radhakrishnan, State Health Secretary, visited the campus with health department officials to oversee RT-PCR tests being conducted for those living on campus, which he described to be a small cluster.
According to Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan, first case was detected on April 19. Following the first case, two more students tested positive for the virus, prompting the health department, Chennai Municipal Corporation, and the medical team on the college campus to collect samples from those who had close contact with the infected students.
In response to an increase in cases in various states, state governments have reinstated the requirement that people wear masks to prevent the virus from spreading. Students and campus residents have also been prompted for vaccination and masks and not to share food, said Radhakrishnan.
According to the Health Secretary, around 3000 residents and their contacts will be tested for the Corona virus. Some students had gone to a closed-door meeting.
