Fate of This Year's Kanwar Yatra Undecided, Uttarakhand CM Says Matter Discussed with Yogi Govt

Dehradun: The suspense over the forthcoming KanwarYatra that is scheduled to begin from July 17 in Uttarakhand continues to grow, with the DGP of Uttarakhand, Ashok Kumar, saying the pilgrimage is likely to be canceled just like last year.

Kumar made the statement after meeting police officials from four other states — Haryana, Delhi, UP and Rajasthan. However, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami told News18 that the government has not decided over the fate of the pilgrimage this year. Dhami said he has discussed the matter with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Lakhs of pilgrims visit Haridwar and Rishikesh during the Hindu month of 'Sawan' to collect Ganga Jal which is later offered to Lord Shiva in different temples. The pilgrimage was canceled last year due to the spread of Covid-19.
