Jammu :Accusing the District Police Udhampur of unleashing terror against opposition parties and suppressing and oppressing the poor and marginalized sections at the behest of BJP, the activists of NPP led by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman-JKNPP and Mr. Yash Paul Kundal General Secretary-JKNPP held a vociferous protest at Jammu today. The protestors torched the effigy of Udhampur Police and sought punitive action against DSP Udhampur for threatening an SC leader of NPP from Udhampur and misbehaving with the female members of his family last night in Udhampur. The protestors raised slogans of District Police Udhampurmurdabad, murdabad , DSP Udhampurkogiraftaarkaro, giraftaarkaro, Bajpakeishare par nachne wale officers kobarkhastkaro, barkhastkaro?.
Harsh Dev Singh said that the NPP SC Cell President RampaulBhagat had protested against the atrocities on dalits, poor and other marginalized sections in Udhampur District yesterday wherein he was threatened of dire consequences by the DSP present on the occasion. The DSP later made a threatening call to the SC leader in the evening and thereafter sent four policemen to his house at around 8:30 p.m in his absence. The male constables misbehaved with the wife of the SC leader besides threatening his children. The matter was immediately reported to DC Udhampur, DIG Udhampur and IGP Jammu who assured of appropriate action which, however, was still awaited.
Singh maintained that the police administration in Udhampur was indulging in selective targeting of NPP leaders and workers while allowing immunity to the goons affiliated with BJP. The vandals, marauders and other lumpen elements owing allegiance to BJP were enjoying a free run despite being accused in cases of murders, attempt to murders, arson, rioting, assaults and public nuisance. He said that several officers were acting as stooges of BJP leaders to execute their nefarious designs and to subserve their vested political interests.
